NAIHC Calls for Forum on Unspent IHBG Funds
Tribes and tribal housing programs strongly encouraged to participate
The National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC) invites tribes and tribal housing programs to attend an important national forum to discuss the issue of unspent Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) funds, and appropriations language currently under consideration in Congress to address the issue.
Background
The issue of unspent IHBG funds has continued to be a topic of discussion and concern throughout the Congressional appropriations process. Large amounts of unspent IHBG funds may jeopardize future funding for all tribal housing programs. The NAIHC Board of Directors has determined that the tribal leaders and tribal housing professionals should be given an opportunity to participate in a transparent and open forum to ensure NAIHC has ample opportunity to present a united response to Congress about the issue of unspent IHBG funds. The NAIHC membership must be able to strike a balance between the perils of unspent IHBG funding and the very real possibility of Congressional action to address this issue.
Process for Tribal Input
NAIHC will be providing materials here so that tribes and housing programs will have access to information about the issue. NAIHC is calling upon tribes to review all the information and participate in the process. More importantly, the organization would like to have the involvement and input from tribal leadership. The input and feedback collected throughout this process will help shape and form the organization's future policy positions and work on the unspent IHBG funds issue.
